Gus Boyd VIEW PROFILE

On January 5, 2015, Gus F. Boyd peacefully passed away after a long and

valiant fight against cancer.

He was born March 17, 1942 to George and Fay Boyd in Vale, Oregon. Gus

had a great love for his parents and always spoke with love and reverence

whenever telling his children stories of his childhood. While growing up,

Gus developed a love for the game of football which he played on Vale

High School’s longest winning team and later in college. As an adult, it

was just a given that if there was a football game on, Gus would be

watching it.

In 1971, he met and married his wife, MarJean Brown. Their marriage was later solemnized in

the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had five children to whom he was the gentle giant who

was slow to anger, but let it be known you were always loved.

Gus had several professions throughout his life with his longest being working in the produce

field and real estate. His “gift for gab” helped in these fields and he never met a person he

couldn’t talk to anywhere, usually at the embarrassment of his children.

Other than football, one of his greatest loves was flying and never had a moment when he

didn’t hear a plane flying by that he wasn’t seen looking to the sky. He loved to fly whenever

he could and was generous in taking others for flights so they could enjoy his great love for

aviation. In his later years, he loved nothing more than to watch “the boys play” whenever

the Thunderbirds would practice their maneuvers not far from their home in Las Vegas.

Gus is survived by: his wife, MarJean; his children, Adrienne (Jim) Seamans, David (Heidi)

Boyd, Aimee (Cody) Johnson, Jason Boyd, and Jared (Jill) Boyd; 13 grandchildren; and his

brother, Joe (Lolly) Boyd. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, his brother

(Allen), and his sister (Irene), whom he all missed dearly and spoke of often.

A graveside service will be held in Riverton, Utah on Friday, January 9, 2015 with services

being handled by Broomhead Funeral Home in Riverton, Utah.

We’ll see you again, Dad. We will “just be a minute.”

My thoughts and prayers go out to Gus' family.  In the last few years Gus called me a couple of times just to chat; he definitely had not lost his gift of gab.  It was nice to see him at the last class reunion.  He will be missed.

A few years ago Gus called me on my birthday and reminded me that he was four days older than me.  We had a great chat about growing up in the Willow Creeks Valley.  Playing basketball against each other in grade school and riding the bus together to high school.  I will miss those yearly chats.  We will all miss Gus.

Gus will be missed by everyone that knew him.  He loved people and he cared about others around him.  His family will miss him but remember him for the example that he set for them while he was with them.  May his family be comforted at this time of loss.  My thoughts and prayers go to his family and loved ones.

I shall miss Gus.  He never forgot his classmates; occasionally I would answer the phone and Gus would wish me happy birthday or just a hello.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family now.
